How do clinicians find and select an appropriate assessment to administer to a client? One source of information is the Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY). As you review the descriptions of the cases in “Practice Making a Diagnosis,” from Neukrug and Fawcett, consider issues that may be relevant and that you would like to assess. Review the list of possible issues in the handout and select two that you would like to explore further through the MMY.

To Prepare:

Review the descriptions of cases in Exercise 3.3: “Practice Making a Diagnosis” and select one of the cases. You will search the Walden Library for the Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY) to find two assessment instruments that measures the client’s diagnosis.

Search the Walden Library for the Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY) as follows:

In the Walden Library, select Databases A-Z on the home page.

Select “M” from the alphabetic menu.

Select Mental Measurements Yearbook with Tests in Print from the options.

Find two assessments that you think is a good to recommend to your ‘client’.

Review the learning resources for Week 7 and note the indenting information for the assessment instrument you select. including:

    1. Author and test publisher
    2. Date of publication
    3. The age range for the groups that the tool is used to assess
    4. Length of time needed to administer
    5. Description of the test items
    6. How items are answered
    7. How items are scored and what raw scores mean,
    8. Reliability and validity information, norming methods, and
    9. Limitations of using this assessment instrument.
