Description
Purpose
The purpose of this activity is to provide students with the opportunity to compile a table with information about pertinent neurotransmitters within psychopharmacology.
Students will download and complete the attached table and submit in Week 8. The completed neurotransmitter table will be a valuable study guide and future resource for practicum and certification review.
Course Outcomes
This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes:
- CO1: Examine the neurophysiological and neuroanatomical basis of psychopharmacologic interventions commonly applied in mental health practice. (PO 1)
- CO2: Associate brain structure and function to the pathophysiology of acute and chronic mental health diagnoses commonly seen in mental health practice. (PO 1)
Due Date
The neurotransmitter table is presented to students in Week 2 with the expectation of weekly contributions as each transmitter is presented in the weekly readings and course activities. The assignment should be submitted to the Week 8 assignment drop box.
Requirements
Requirements: Students will download and complete the neurotransmitter table information on the template (Links to an external site.) provided. For each neurotransmitter and receptor type, complete the following columns:
- Location/function/effects/symptoms of excess or deficit
- Distribution
- Drug classes that target this neurotransmitter or receptor
- All neurotransmitters and receptor types: Specific medications that target this neurotransmitter or receptor
