Assessment Description
For most children, life develops in a typical fashion with relative stability, but every year, a number of events occur that can significantly impact a child’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.
This assignment has two parts.
Part 1: Storybook
Create a storybook that analyzes the impact of a trauma on a developing child or adolescent ages 6-12. Your storybook should:
- Introduce a main character during the ages 6-12 and any necessary minor characters.
- Provide two examples of major events that have caused trauma in the main character´s life.
- Portray your character undergoing the major physical developmental milestones normally achieved during middle childhood (height, weight, physical coordination, etc.) and how the trauma they have experienced impacts their physical development.
- Portray your character undergoing the cognitive milestones normally achieved during middle childhood (intelligence, memories, schemas, etc.) and how the trauma they have experienced impacts their cognitive development.
- Portray your character undergoing the major social and emotional milestones normally achieved during middle childhood (developing trust and friendships, controlling emotional displays, developing mental health problems, etc.) and how the trauma they have experienced impacts their social and emotional development.
- Portray their interactions with family and friends, including how their trauma impacts their relationships.
- Provide two to three examples of how the characters (e.g., teachers, counselors, or family members) in your story manage to reduce the impact of trauma on the main character.
- Include visual elements that enhance the content of your story.
Part 2: Explanation of Storybook
Using two to three scholarly sources, in 500-750-words, explain how the storybook you created in Part 1 addresses each of the following prompts:
- Explain the two major traumatic events from the storybook you created.
- Identify major physical developmental milestones normally achieved during middle childhood (height, weight, physical coordination, etc.) and explain the impact of trauma.

- Analyze your character´s interactions with family and friends are portrayed in the storybook, including how their trauma impacts their relationships.
- Evaluate how the characters in the story attempted to reduce the impact of trauma for the developing child.
