Description
Mabel Johnson is a 76 year old female who presents with complaints of worsening bilateral knee pain that started five years ago. Patient endorses the right knee pain is worse and radiates down to her ankle, with associated morning stiffness, pain/swelling in her fingers, without trauma. Physical exam reveals small right knee effusion, right sided bowed leg with a limping gait, limited ROM, without fever. Pertinent medical history of obesity, chronic renal disease, hypertension, and peptic ulcer disease due to ibuprofen use.
Ms. Johnson is a 76 year-old obese female with a significant history of chronic renal disease, uncontrolled hypertension despite medication compliance, and peptic ulcer disease due to overuse of ibuprofen who presents complaining of progressive knee pain. Right knee pain is worse than left with the presence of a small right knee effusion. The knee pain and finger pain is worse in the morning, along with the stiffness, but gets better with some movement. She has limited range of motion in her knees, which is exacerbated by weight-bearing exercises resulting in difficulty with daily living activities.
